Abstract

This paper presents the mechanical properties of Very High Strength Concrete (VHSC) using innovative nanoindentation technique. VHSC is a composite material that is highly heterogeneous, thus, characterisation of cementitious matrix, aggregates and interfacial transition zone (ITZ) between cementitious matrix and aggregates in VHSC are necessary to unveil the governing failure and mechanical properties of the concrete. The method used in this study is based on a novel statistical approach and tribological properties obtained from nano-scratch tests, which are employed to determine the mechanical properties at a nanoscale level. Then an upscale of the nanoscale properties is carried out by me..
